After some reading, I went back to the TV. I missed both 10 minutes off the start of both movies but I stayed on anyways.
Let's start with The Simpsons Movie.

Disappointment. It felt like just another episode, except that it was stretched and dragged a little longer. It's basically about Homer polluting Springfield, causing the whole town to be locked up in a dome. Soon, he escapes and after his er... epiphany, he decides to go back to Springfield to save the day.
Nevertheless, I think Homer's glory days are over. Maybe I'm growing up, but maybe, just maybe, (sorry Simpsons fans), the Simpsons lost their edge and exhausted their gags a decade ago. It's probably better than anything produced a few years ago, but still far short of their glory days with their brilliant one-liners. Perhaps it was fairly decent, but it wasn't great. But of course, the classic Homer quotes never fail to bring back memories. I am not a huge fan of the Simpsons but I've watched a few and a smile some how forms behind your brain each time you hear a familiar dialogue, even better when you remember the scene it was from. It's like watching one of those Scary Movies and recognizing what movie it came from. But back to the movie... there were a few good jokes and a few good scenes. I some how liked Spiderpig alot. But, it sure was mighty tiresome to sit through the whole movie with lots of missed jokes just to find one. (Of course, it sure beats studying.) It's like how I frequently miss out the main points i'm trying to explain... Okay, I don't get what i just said, but i do know the movie's something like that.
Moving on...
Disturbia. Starring Shia LaBeouf.

Can you remember those days of armpits farting and other various disgusting habits of Shia LaBeuof from Even Stevens? I sure can... But this guy's all grown up now, moving from Nickelodeon to huge Hollywood blockbusters such as Transformer and... Transformer 2? XD Okay. There were a few others... Eagle Eye, Indiana Jones are examples. But let's talk about Disturbia.
Shia LaBeouf plays a sorta troubled teen (cause he just lost his dad), Kale, who is placed under house arrest for attacking his Spanish teacher. For this assault, he could have landed himself in jail, but under a sympathetic judge, he is sentenced to 3 months house arrest with a ankle monitor and a proximity sensor. He first starts out by indulging himself in decadence - XBox Live, TiVo, iTunes Store... until of course, his mum cut the cable (or power cord), literally. So, he then satiates his boredom somewhere else. He starts to spend his time spying on his neighbour. He begins working on his "stalking" skills.
One day, he begins to suspect his neighbour of being a murderer, regarding them based on "circumstantial" evidence... but is he really? Or is young Kale just imagining things to feed and satisfy his boredom? But then again... every killer has a neighbour too, right? ...right?
This movie's pretty decent. I thought it was Disturbia by Chris Nolan but it wasn't. Like and unlike The Simpsons Movie, it wasn't the best Academy Award winning film, but it was pretty good. There were a few good takes. The director did do a good job in making me anxious but sad to say, there was very little of it; very little of "oh shit"s and "oh my god"s. Well, at least they use very little gore and gross tactics to scare you; it relies more on the suspense and the tension, which works better. In fact, the filmography was quite interesting. I like how the lights play a role in the movie.
That reminds me, I watched Vacancy (starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale who was quite good) the other day and it was quite "tension building". Good movie to watch, just that i didn't quite like the ending. Of course, that doesn't really effect how good the build up was. Oh, i like the posters too. X)

So, all in all: Disturbia, definitely one of the best PG13 thrillers around, a good movie to watch. Light and entertaining. Good (or not so good) for exam seasons where you don't want yourself to be left you stranded in an imaginary world (like how I always do when i watch an "infatuating" flick). The Simpsons Movie? Why not? We've got so much time anyways. Don't forget Vacancy!
